Dr James Mwangi, Equity Bank Group CEO is one of the seven candidates shortlisted for Africa CEO Forum 2018 awards.
According to an article by Business Daily, the list announced in Abidjan consisted of other individuals such as Zenith Bank’s chief executive Jim Ovia, Attijariwafa Bank’s Mohamed El-Kettani, and Telcar Cocoa’s boss Kate Kanyi.
Dr Mwangi was shortlisted for these awards as one of the leaders, companies, and investors who have executed approaches and performance contributed towards Africa’s growth.
This announcement comes after James Mwangi was appointed as an economic advisor of the International Financial Corporation (IFC).
“We believe you can add significant value to how we execute our mission. […] The new IFC Strategy 3.0 puts a premium on sound economic and strategic advice,” the invitation letter by IFC vice president Hans Peter Lankes stated.
Dr Mwangi was also awarded the 2012 Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Besides receiving awards, Equity Group CEO has been named one of the top 50 thought leaders in emerging markets by the Financial Times and one of top 20 most influential people in Africa.
Darshan Chandaria, the CEO of Chandaria Group has also been shortlisted for the Young CEO award while Twiga Foods has been shortlisted for the Most Promising Company award.
